Q:

How will I know if I am eligible?

A:

We run many different projects funded by various agencies, and some of these projects have a particular focus on certain community groups, ages, gender, place or borough of residence or working status. Generally, if you have lived in the EU for 3 years or have been married to an EU citizen for more than 12 months we will be able to find a free or part-funded course for you. Please discuss your full situation with one of our advisors. Under some circumstances, learners receiving only part-funding for a course will be able to secure additional financial support from our Hardship Fund. Ask an advisor about how to apply for this.

Q:

Is there an age restriction for these courses?

A:

We welcome all ages above 16 years and there is no limit on the upper age. Please be aware due to the nature of our funding some courses require specific ages groups: please contact us for more information about specific courses you might be interested in.

Q:

Are the courses full time or part time?

A:

None of our courses run for more than 15 hours per week to accommodate the needs of both working people and those on benefits.

Q:

What are the class times?

A:

Our morning class times usually run from 9:30am to 12:30pm and our afternoon class times are from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. Evening class are usually 6.00 - 9.00 p.m.

Q:

What if I cannot get onto the course?

A:

We will let you know when the class is next running and reserve a place for you on your instruction.

Q:

Are the courses absolutely free? What about exam fees, travel and childcare?

A:

In the event that a payment would be required, you would be fully informed of this prior to starting the programme. Some learners will be eligible for support with tuition costs from our Hardship Fund. Ask your tutor for details on how to apply.

All exam registration for City and Guilds, OCR and Edexcel exams is free. However, our learners who wish to undertake professional IT vendor qualifications (such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft MCP and MCSA, CIW, Adobe, MySQL) will have to pay the registration fees for that exam. Where your attendance, performance and achievement has been high, we may be able to offer discount vouchers that will reduce the exam fees by as much as 50%.

To pass CompTIA A+ requires taking two exams at a cost of £64 each including voucher discount.

Many of our learners receive help in paying all or part of their travel costs to our centre, and we can also help with the cost of childcare in many cases. Please ask our staff for details of our Hardship Fund, and read the current policy here.

Q:

Who can do our courses?

A:

Generally, if you are unemployed or employed and have lived in the European Union for 3 years we will have a free course for you. Many of our projects have specific criteria on eligibility we which we will discuss with you when you make an appointment.

Q:

How do I apply?

A:

Contact us and arrange an advice and guidance appointment. We will discuss your learning and support needs andl help you find the most suitable course.
