International Women's Day

International Women's Day

On Thursday 10th March 2016 students of the course ESOL E2 Speaking and Listening class and their tutor Debora Sinclair Murray visited the organisation SimpleGifts: Unitarian Centre for Social Action in Bethnal Green.

This organisation runs community programmes from Bethnal Green, East London premises. Her programmes - including After School Club, New Neighbours/Old Neighbours Lunch, and ESOL classes - are all run by a team of dedicated volunteers.

On that day the volunteers organised activities to make this day more special for all women of the E2 class. Some wanted to have make up, some only facial massage, some a manicure and some a Henna painting. Henna has been used for centuries to adorn young women's bodies as part of social and holiday celebrations:

Danish Delegation

Danish Delegation

On 21st of January we had visitors from Denmark. They came here to see the way that we learn English at ELATT and to experience a new way of teaching for themselves. We introduced ourselves. Then some of us interviewed them and asked them for their thoughts about our college and about cultural differences.

Connected Careers

Connected Careers

Connected Careers

Connected Careers was an opportunity for employers to deliver workshops that enabled learners to access the job market or to become successful entrepreneurs by teaching industry relevant skills.

Several workshops were delivered throughout the day and we asked employers to give bite sized chunks of wisdom to our learners after they delivered their sessions.

Our video resources can be used to highlight the need for employers to provide advice on the whole person approach to attaining career goals. They can also be used with students to show the importance of personal development alongside improving the academic skills necessary to be successful.
